EXPERIENCE
Leavitt’s Freight Service is a full service flatbed carrier, but our specialty is the movement of utility poles up to 150’ in length. Our company entered the trucking industry in 1958 and has grown to one of the primary players in the transportation of utility poles. Our drivers are trained and experienced in handling extra long poles as well as lengths as short as 25’. With equipment that is specially suited to the task, we have built a strong reputation for transporting and unloading these poles without damage.
COMPANY SIZE
We began as a small trucking company with a few trucks that were driven by the owners. We have grown to a fleet size of 80 trucks, providing family wage earning positions for well over 100 employees.
EQUIPMENT and LENGTH CAPACITY
Of our 80 trucks, nine have the capacity to unload poles off their own trailer as well as others, eliminating the need for forklifts or cranes at the customer’s yard. These poles can be delivered to a yard, a jobsite, or we can string the poles along lines that are being constructed. These pieces of equipment have the capacity to haul lengths up to 120’ in length using either regular flatbed trailers or our specialized mechanically or manually steered trailers. The mechanically steered trailers are steered independently from the cab of the truck. The manually steered trailers have a compartment where an additional driver rides and steers the end of the load. These pieces of equipment provide maneuverability as well as increasing safety. With only a few exceptions, all our trucks are cabovers so we can reduce our overall length, thus reducing the associated costs for permits and pilot cars.
UNLOADING CAPACITY
Due to the design and structure of our boom apparatus, we able to transport and unload pole lengths up to 120’. This can be done from the self unloading truck itself, or from a separate piece of equipment.
WEIGHT CAPACITY
All our self unloading trucks can transport a full 42,000# of cargo. Two of these trucks are equipped to handle weights up to 50,000# in North and South Dakota, Montana, Wyoming, Nebraska, Idaho, Washington, Oregon and Utah as well as British Columbia and Alberta.
SERVICES
Our services to our customers vary as much as the needs of our customers vary. With great regularity we provide delivery to jobsites and field locations, and stringing (or hole-to-hole) delivery. We will also sort a load of poles into the customer’s bins by length and class of poles. We will provide 24-hour notice prior to delivery if requested by the customer. There are some cases where our driver unloads the load of poles after hours at our customer’s yard, making the poles available to their crew when they report to work.
TRAFFIC LANES
Our trucks are licensed for all 48 states plus Alaska, as well as the Canadian Provinces. We have the best coverage for our customers in the eleven western states. However, we do transport poles across the country on a regular basis. During recent years we have sent many trucks to the disaster stricken areas of the Midwest and East. These situations take particular advantage of our self unloading services to get the poles precisely where the greatest needs are.
