On Saturday June 15, Leavitts Freight had 7 of our drivers competing in the Oregon Trucking Associations' Truck Driving Championships. We are very proud of everyone who participated, and would like to Thank everyone for their hard work in helping make this such a success! A special Congratulations! to Ed Hawkins for placing 2nd in the Flatbed division. It was a great event, and we are looking forward to next year being even better.
You may have noticed the new trucks that are currently being delivered and setup in our shop. New CARB (California Air Research Board) regulations that go in effect 1/1/14 in California require us to put our new trucks in service Jan 1. We are taking 14 older trucks out of service and purchasing 20 new ones. This includes adding three additional new boom trucks and six additional heavy haul tractors and trailers.
Historically, we’ve convened monthly safety meetings on Saturday mornings at the terminal. We want driver home time to be uninterrupted. So, Leavitt’s has elected to expand our use of online training tools to promote and enhance our communication processes. Those who complete training assignments by the last duty day of the month will included in a drawing for $25 Leavitt Store gift cards, we’ll draw five names monthly.
Leavitt’s is proud to announce the establishment of our new “Million-Mile Safety Award Program.” This effort is designed to identify, recognize, and award Leavitt’s drivers who have operated 1-million plus collision and traffic violation free miles.
2013 “Million Mile Safety Award” selectees:
Par Electric has sent a letter praising driver Craig Bates. "...commend Craig on the job he did for us. He was very professional, always on time, and had a can do attitude everyday, even thru the long hours we were working to try to meet this near impossible deadline. ...Your rear-steer trailer was put thru its paces every day. In fact he went thru a traffic circle for four loads in a residential area with 100'+ wood and never touched a sign or curbed a tire... Craig made quite the impression... "
Leavitt's Got RAD!
Office space expansion continues. Downstairs there will be individual offices for the Safety, Recruiting and Compliance group as well as a much larger driver training and meeting room. We are especially excited about the new Drivers Lounge that will allow our drivers to comfortably relax when delayed at our facility. Upstairs we'll have additional room for Dispatch, Accounting and individual offices.
We are looking for highly qualified recruits — drivers who will be good representatives of Leavitt's. Minimum qualifications include:
• At least 23 years old.
• Valid CDL for state of residence
• Current medical card
• Minimum 2 years experience operating tractor/trailer units
Leavitt's has initiated a Driver Referral Bonus Program for current employees. Contact Rich Johnson or Russ Smith.
On the move: It is an exciting time here at Leavitt’s. We are growing at an incredible pace. We recently rented a second yard here in Springfield to store extra trailers and loaded trailers that are waiting for delivery appointments. This new yard is about 2 miles from the shop and will work very nicely for overflow parking.
Expanding out of state: We are currently in negotiations with a company in Washington to rent property along I-5, south of Olympia for the purpose of storing trailers that are destined to unload in the Seattle market. We will have more information on this location at a later date.
Indiana reload yard: This past fall we doubled the size of the reload yard in Indiana; the location has taken off and has become a great anchor point for our mid-west operations. Last year we transported over 900 loads out of this location; this year should exceed that number easily. We also added a full time dispatcher.
We’re starting our second year of the D4C mileage bonus program. To-date the program has produced great results with $89,275 in 2012 bonuses earned. Eighteen drivers qualified for a bonus in all four quarters of 2012. In all, 75 drivers earned a D4C bonus at some point during the year. A superior effort on everyone’s part!
Leavitt’s is pleased to announce that starting January 2013 we will be supplying a $ 10,000.00 Term Life and AD& D plan from Mutual of Omaha for every active full time employee, whether you are enrolled in our Health & Dental Plans or not. This base policy comes at no additional cost to employees.
